Alocasia hybrid 'Corazon'
This attractive foliage plant is closely related to Taro.
Natural habitat and growing conditions:
Native to tropical and subtropical Asia and Australia, there are approximately 80 species in the genus, and many hybrids have been created. Alocasia plants generally like bright light, warm, humid conditions, and regular water.
Notes of interest:
- This particular specimen (along with many other plants) is grown underneath an upper shelf of plants in our grow room, 4-6 feet away from the Black Dog LED grow lights, demonstrating the sheer penetration power of our LED lights.
- All parts of the Alocasia Corazon plant contain calcium oxalate, an irritant which can cause swelling of the throat.
- If prepared by boiling or processing with acidic fruits, the corm (stem) of the plant is edible and tastes like Taro.
