Natural habitat and growing conditions:
Native to tropical rainforests of eastern Brazil, this species grows best with medium light levels and warm, humid conditions. It is damaged by temperatures below 60 °F.Notes of interest:
- The leaves are pleated, green above and purple below. The fine hairs covering the leaves feel like velvet.
- As with all Calathea species, this plant folds its leaves vertically at night, returning them to horizontal the next day.
