Native to Central America and the Caribbean, these perennial pepper plants prefer bright light, warm conditions, and regular water.Notes of interest:
- The Dutch botanist Nikolaus Joseph von Jacquin named this species of pepper chinense in 1776 because he incorrectly believed it originated in China. All Capsicum species originated in the Americas.
- If given constant light and warmth, Habanero plants will grow into small shrubs and can live many years.
