Native to tropical rainforests of northwestern Brazil, this species grows best with medium light levels and warm, humid conditions. It is damaged by temperatures below 60 °F.Notes of interest:
- The leaves have 3 different colors of green in an intricate pattern, and purple undersides.
- As with all Calathea species, this plant folds its leaves vertically at night, returning them to horizontal the next day.
