Natural habitat and growing conditions:
Growing as a bush in tropical and subtropical regions, this species is native to East Asia. The Erin Rachel Hibiscus plant prefers to be kept above 50 °F, and requires bright light to flower consistently. The plant tolerates a wide humidity range, though can be slightly susceptible to spider mites in low-humidity conditions.
Notes of interest:
- This indoor hibiscus specimen has been in constant bloom for over 9 months-- ever since it was put under our LED grow lights
- Many cultivars of this species are available with widely-ranging flower color and size.
- This cultivar's flowers aren't particularly largei at about 5 inches across, but they are strikingly colored and almost iridescent, as the color shifts when viewed from different angles.
- 'Erin Rachel' is noted to be unusually reluctant to branch on its own; pruning is usually required to keep a bushy shape.
